Supervision

We will be guided by each University’s supervision requirements and considerations then we will work with you to prepare supervisors, whether they have supervised internationally for years or if it’s their first time throughout detailed pre-departure programs and one-one-on guidance if required. If you don’t have enough supervisors to travel with the group, we can tap into our pool of casual academic supervisors on your behalf to provide you with options. Alternatively, for non-clinical programs we can provide 24/7 in-country host support.

Mobility Staff

Fiona, the Founder of Nineteen Degrees has been in your shoes so understands the requirements of a global mobility office on a day-to-day basis and especially during peak travel times.  We pride ourselves on working in partnership with global mobility teams and academics so that your program can run as smoothly as possible.

Nineteen Degrees is available for consult on all matters concerning international student mobility including:

• Developing and managing international host site partnerships

• Securing Federal Government funding for programs through the New Colombo Plan Program through NCP Grant Application assistance

• Promoting opportunities, providing marketing collateral and preparing student groups for international placements

• Developing international placements to suit individual discipline requirements and managing logistics of all activities

• Ensuring programs are designed and operated responsibly to ensure maximum positive impact. We can conduct a review of current programs and provide advice

• Focussing on risk management and emergency response to ensure the safety of participants at all times

 

How we support you

We currently have multiple third-party agreements in place with top Universities across the country. There are many reasons Universities have chosen to outsource to a third-party provider, including:

  • One-point of contact for your learning abroad program which avoids any confusion and juggling of information allowing for a streamlined and coordinated approach

  • Specialisation of our programs in health and community internships which increases our understanding of University practicum requirements and student needs

  • Existing partnerships including hospitals, health clinics, NGOs, community organisations, accommodation providers have been set-up saving a huge amount of time and organisation. With this comes detailed knowledge of placements and their stakeholders through years of engagement and regular travel to the regions

  • Familiarity with global mobility offices and their requirements which allows us to pre-empt requirements and reduction of pressure on global mobility teams through additional support and resources

  • The extensive Pre-Departure program has been developed and is accessible via LMS thereby reducing the amount of preparation you need to complete

  • Ability to access discounted group flights in advance for peace of mind

  • Cultural expertise in your selected destination which makes for a smoother experience

Interprofessional placements

There are so many benefits of interprofessional placements such as simulating a real-life holistic working environment, Peer-To-Peer learning opportunities, or to promote problem solving and diverse ways of thinking and teamwork. 

Nineteen Degrees recommends that interprofessional placements are best paired with nursing. Universities are then encouraged to determine the best supervision requirements.  

Previous interprofessional programs have included:

  • Nursing & Midwifery students

  • Nursing & Physiotherapy students

  • Nursing & Psychology students

  • Nursing & Journalism students

Do you have an agreement with my University?

We have multiple Third-Party agreements with leading Australian Universities. It’s best to check with your University International Office to determine if Nineteen Degrees are an approved provider. If not, we are more than happy to complete an application.

Are your projects in destinations that are considered safe by DFAT?

Yes, we abide by DFAT’s risk ratings.

How do you manage risk?

We develop strict risk assessments for every placement and exercise mitigations at every stage. More details will be provided once a client has commenced a placement with Nineteen Degrees.

I haven't run an international program for my faculty before, where do I start?

First of all, welcome to the word of learning abroad! We have listed the entire process of planning a program on the ‘How It Works’ page. Each University operates their own processes, so it is best to check with your Global Mobility office first.

Does this program receive academic credit?

Yes, all of our programs are designed in partnership with a University faculty or school according to their requirements and the desired learning outcomes.

Do you provide support in completing New Colombo Plan applications for this program?

Yes, we are able to assist in completion of a New Colombo Plan funding application however ultimately the application will need to be submitted by the University and not Nineteen Degrees. Some universities have internal due dates that are well in advance of the New Colombo Plan due date so it’s best to check with your International Office to ensure the funding application is submitted on time.

Are there limits (min and max participants) to what you can do?

Minimum is 6, maximum ideally is 20 – however this is destination dependant and according to ratios of staff to students (University specific).
